Samson C03 Condenser Microphone

The Samson C03 is a versatile, large-diaphragm multi-pattern condenser microphone designed for project studios and home recording. It is widely regarded as an excellent “all-rounder” because it offers features usually found in much more expensive professional microphones.

• Switchable Polar Patterns: The C03 features a dual-diaphragm design that allows you to toggle between three distinct pickup patterns:

  • Super-Cardioid: Ideal for isolating a single sound source (like a vocalist) while rejecting noise from the sides and rear.

  • Omni-directional: Picks up sound equally from all sides—perfect for capturing the natural “room sound” or a group of singers around one mic.

  • Figure-8: Picks up sound from the front and back while rejecting the sides—useful for face-to-face interviews or duets.

• High SPL Handling: With the built-in pad, this microphone can handle sound pressure levels up to 142 dB, making it safe to use on loud sources like drum overheads or cranked guitar amplifiers.

   

• Onboard Controls:

  • -10 dB Pad: Attenuates the input signal to prevent clipping when recording very loud sounds.

  • High-Pass Filter: A switchable filter that rolls off frequencies below 100Hz, helping to eliminate low-end rumble or “P-pops” (plosives).

• Professional Build: It features a solid, heavy-duty die-cast metal construction with a gold-plated XLR connector for a reliable signal path.

Things to Consider

• Requires Gear: As an XLR condenser microphone, it requires 48V phantom power from an audio interface or mixer to work.

• Shockmount: While it includes a swivel mount, most users recommend purchasing the optional Samson SP01 spider shockmount to better isolate it from vibrations.
