The Zoom LiveTrak L-12 is a hybrid digital mixer, multi-track recorder, and USB audio interface designed primarily for bands, small ensembles, and podcasters.

As of early 2026, Zoom has recently updated this series with the LiveTrak L12next. Below is a breakdown of what makes these mixers unique and the key differences between the original and the new “Next” version.

Key Features (Original L-12)

The L-12 is famous for its “all-in-one” workflow, allowing you to record a full band rehearsal directly to an SD card without a computer.

  • 12 Discrete Channels: 8 mono (XLR/TRS combo) and 2 stereo pairs (1/4″ or RCA).

  • 14-Track Recording: Records 12 individual channels plus the stereo master mix simultaneously to an SD card.

  • 5 Independent Monitor Mixes: This is the “killer feature” for bands—it has 5 headphone outputs, each with its own customizable mix, so every musician can hear exactly what they need.

  • Onboard Effects: 16 built-in effects (reverb, delay, etc.) and a 3-band semi-parametric EQ on every channel.

  • Scene Saving: Save up to 9 “scenes” to instantly recall fader positions, EQ, and effects settings.

    What’s New: Zoom LiveTrak L12next

The L12next (released late 2025) brings several modern “pro” features to the platform:

Best Use Cases

  • For Bands: Use it as your live mixer and record every input to separate tracks for mixing later in your DAW. The 5 headphone mixes eliminate the need for extra monitoring gear.

  • For Podcasters: Use the Mix-Minus feature on the stereo channels to bring in remote guests via phone or computer without them hearing a distracting echo of their own voice.

  • For Home Studios: It functions as a 14-in/4-out audio interface. You can even record to the SD card and your computer simultaneously as a backup.

[!TIP] A Note on Faders: Because this is a digital mixer without motorized faders, when you switch between monitor mixes or recall a scene, the physical faders won’t move. You have to “catch” the level by moving the fader to match the light indicator next to it.
